A Turkish seismologist believes that the effect of today's 6.2-magnitude earthquake in Istanbul is somewhat limited, since not the entire fault ruptured, but only part of it, reported the Turkish DHA news agency, quoted by BTA.
"We missed it", commented Prof. Dr. Hasan Sözbilir, director of the Earthquake Research Center at "Dokuz Eylül" University in Izmir and head of the geology department.
"Not the entire fault, but only a part of it ruptured," he said, specifying that the earthquake occurred along the North Anatolian Fault.
According to the seismologist, it is good that there are aftershocks.
