US President Donald Trump rebuked Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday for his statement that Ukraine will not recognize Russia's occupation of Crimea, saying it was a provocative statement that would make a peace deal with Russia more difficult to achieve, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
“This statement is very harmful to peace talks with Russia“, Trump wrote in a post on “Truth Social“. According to him, Crimea was lost many years ago “and that is not even a subject of discussion“.
“We are very close to an agreement on the war in Ukraine“, the American president also wrote.
Zelenskyy reiterated yesterday that Ukraine will not recognize the Russian occupation of Crimea. “There is nothing to talk about here. It is against our Constitution“, he said.
“Nobody is asking Zelenskyy to recognize Crimea as Russian territory, but if he wants Crimea, why didn't they fight for it eleven years ago when it was handed over to Russia without a single shot being fired?“, Trump wrote in “Truth Social“.
“Provocative statements like Zelenskyy's make settling this war so difficult. He has nothing to brag about!“, the US president continued in a tone similar to the one he used during the clash between the two leaders in the Oval Office in March.
