The Economist: Trump is selling a peace plan for Ukraine, but no one wants to buy it - 1

US President Donald Trump is selling his "peace plan" for Ukraine, but neither European countries, nor Ukraine, nor Russia are buying it, writes The Economist.

In its publication, the publication writes that Trump's proposals will only reward the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. The Economist refers to the points in the proposal that officially recognize the illegal annexation of Crimea, the termination of anti-Russian sanctions, as well as the promise that Ukraine will not be allowed to join NATO.

And in ''exchange'' America is not offering Kiev security guarantees or assistance with other similar guarantees that the Europeans can offer.

"The best that can be said about the American plan is that it cannot give Putin absolutely everything he wants. There is no official recognition in it of the annexation of the four Ukrainian regions that Russia has now partially occupied. And, according to leaked reports, there is no acceptance of Russian demands to impose restrictions on the armed forces of Ukraine after the entry into force of any peace agreement“, the journalists write.

According to the publication, no one has yet approved Trump's proposals.

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated a few days ago that Kiev does not recognize the seizure of Crimea by Russia.

At the same time, European countries do not want to undermine Ukraine's position, and the Russian Federation has not yet accepted the US President's plan.

It is noted that Trump's special representative Steve Witkoff will soon visit Moscow again to try to get the consent of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"The peace plan“ of Trump after the end of the war

Earlier, the special representative of the US President Steve Witkoff said that the key to the peace agreement in Ukraine revolves around the “fifth territory“. Then he did not specify what exactly he was talking about, although, as is known, the Russian Federation insists that the seizure of Crimea, Zaporizhia, Kherson, Lugansk and Donetsk be recognized in any agreement.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine responded sharply to Witkoff's statement on the “territorial issue“. The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Georgy Tykhy, said that Ukraine will never recognize the stolen territories as Russian and will never agree to any limitation of its defense capabilities.

According to Reuters, Europe is categorically against some points of the “peace plan”. As European leaders, they are mainly opposed to recognizing the illegally annexed Crimea as Russian and lifting sanctions against Russia until the negotiations are concluded.
