Ukraine confirmed its unyielding position on the conditions for ending the war with Russia during a meeting with Western allies held this week in London. This was announced by the spokesman for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, quoted by "Reuters", reports News.bg.
The Kiev delegation stated categorically that it would not recognize any part of Ukrainian territory as Russian and stressed that the country retains its sovereign right to choose alliances and develop its armed forces without external restrictions.
Speaker Georgy Tykhyy said at a briefing that the Ukrainian delegation had rejected any possibility of another country vetoing alliances that Ukraine could conclude. He stressed that Kiev would not allow any restrictions to be imposed on its armed forces.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Thursday that talks between Ukrainian and Western officials held in London on Wednesday were not "easy" but were "constructive".
"No third party has the right to veto Ukraine's choice of alliances and partnerships," Tykhy reiterated.
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has confirmed Ukraine's irreversible path to NATO membership. This coincides with a statement by the Alliance's Secretary General, given in an interview with a Ukrainian television channel.
Ukraine has repeatedly stated its intention to join NATO, viewing membership as a security guarantee against any future aggressive actions by Russia, which invaded the country in 2022.
For its part, Moscow insists that Ukraine not join the Alliance and be demilitarized.
President Zelensky stressed again this week that Ukraine will never recognize Russia's occupation of Crimea, annexed by Moscow in 2014. The next day, he was criticized by former US President Donald Trump, who is demanding a quick end to the conflict.
Earlier, it became clear that European and Ukrainian representatives had rejected key elements of the American peace plan proposed by the Trump administration and presented an alternative framework for resolving the conflict.
