Former Georgian Prime Minister Garibashvili Announces Retirement from Politics - 1

Former Prime Minister and Chairman of the ruling party “Georgian Dream“ Irakli Garibashvili announced at a briefing at the party headquarters that he is retiring from politics, the Georgian public media outlet GPB reported, quoted by BTA.

“Today “Georgian Dream“ is finally formed as a united and strong political force and, of course, a special role in this was played by the founder and honorary chairman of our party, Bidzina Ivanishvili, who is the main guarantor of peace and stability in the country. At the most critical moment, he managed to consolidate the team, maintain unity, and under his leadership “Georgian Dream“ prevented huge threats to the country and society, while bringing tangible progress and development in all spheres, in all directions“, said Irakli Garibashvili.

“Against this background, I believe, one can say that I have already fulfilled the honorable mission that was assigned to me at the time when I returned to politics, initially as Minister of Defense, then as Prime Minister for the second time and finally as Chairman of “Georgian Dream“, co-founder of our party and team. Now I see no need to remain Chairman of the party and to remain in politics at all. That is why I decided to leave the post of Chairman of “Georgian Dream“ and retire from politics, but I will continue to serve my country from another position“, he added.

Irakli Garibashvili was elected Chairman of the PP “Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia“ on February 1, 2024.

He served as Prime Minister of Georgia twice: from November 20, 2013 to December 30, 2015, and the second time between February 22, 2021 and January 29, 2024.
