Sales of the BMW Z4 Roadster with a manual transmission turned out to be more popular than the same cars with an "automatic", in a market that has been dominated by automatic transmissions for years.
BMW has published statistics on Z4 sales in the US for 2024, according to which the manual transmission version, which appeared on the market at the beginning of last year, far surpassed the automatic version in popularity, accounting for 65 percent of the model's total sales.
Although the total number of Z4s sold in the US in 2024 is a modest 2,129 units, demand for the model shows an increase of 13.1% compared to 2023, when 1,883 cars were sold.
According to BMW representatives, it is the introduction of the manual transmission that has become a key factor in increasing sales, provoking an "extremely enthusiastic response" from buyers.
It is interesting to note that the percentage of manual transmission choices for the Z4 is almost identical to the figures for the Toyota Supra - the technical "twin" of the BMW roadster.
Toyota has officially confirmed that 65 percent of all Supra cars sold in the US in 2024 were equipped with manual transmissions, which is a significant increase from the 2023 figure of 43 percent.
