They are preparing a law on the use of artificial intelligence - 1

The Indian government intends to draft a law to regulate the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to protect the interests of news publishers and content creators and minimize harm to consumers, the Minister of Communications, Electronics and information technology Ashwini Vaishnav.

„The new law will be balanced and strong in securing rights and income distribution between news publishers, creators of AI technologies, including large language models. The law will provide good opportunities for introducing innovations”, the newspaper The Economic Times quotes the minister.

Legislative measures on the use of AI may be part of the draft Digital India Act, which is expected to replace the outdated Information Technology Act passed in 2000.

„There is a transition [to widespread use of AI]. Our position is that the protection of intellectual property rights will not be affected and there will be no commercial or financial implications,” said Vaishnav.

He stressed that self-regulation of AI use by tech companies in India will be based on legislation that will protect the interests and rights of publishers as well as news content creators.

In January 2024, the Indian Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA), which represents 17 of the country's largest electronic media outlets, asked the government to protect against possible copyright infringement by using artificial models intellect.
