China is concerned about Japan's decision to impose export controls on certain semiconductor products, which could harm stability in global supply chains. This was said in a statement by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China.

„The corresponding measures proposed by the Japanese side will seriously affect the normal trade exchange between Chinese and Japanese companies, harm others and not benefit themselves, and harm the stability of global chains for supplies“, the statement noted.

China also urged Japan to consider the overall situation in bilateral economic and trade relations and jointly maintain the stability of global industrial chains. “China will take the necessary measures to resolutely protect the legitimate rights and interests of PRC enterprises,” said the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC.

The department also drew attention to the fact that in the field of semiconductor production, after several decades of development at the global level, a model has emerged that combines elements of the market and corporate choice. However, for some time, individual countries, under the pretext of ensuring national security, often abused export control measures and deviated from the principles of free trade, which seriously affected the stability of global production and supply chains, the ministry said.

On April 26, the Japanese government announced plans to tighten export controls on some semiconductor-related equipment and advanced materials. In particular, it is proposed to oblige companies to notify relevant government agencies before exporting equipment and materials that can be used for military purposes.
