The total contribution of fifth-generation (5G) mobile communications to China's GDP will be about USD 260 billion by 2030 This prediction was made by the Director General of the GSM Association (GSMA), Mats Granried, speaking at the opening ceremony of the Mobile World Congress in Shanghai, MWC Shanghai).
„We believe that in 2030, the contribution of 5G communications to the total GDP [of China] will approach $260 billion, which is twice what it is now,” he said, adding, that with this then 89% of the Chinese population will be covered by mobile communications. For comparison, Granreed cites statistics, this figure in 2020 was 73%.
Talking about the future direction of development of mobile communications, Granrid specifically noted the role of artificial intelligence technologies. According to his forecasts, this market could grow to 15 trillion dollars. At the same time, China is already making quite a significant contribution to the development of relevant technologies. As the director general of the association pointed out, China today accounts for 40% of all language models developed for artificial intelligence. At the same time, Granried noted, the world is at a crossroads, as there is a possibility that artificial intelligence will disappear altogether if the wrong choice is made.
Mobile World Congress is organized in different countries by the GSM Association, which represents the interests of players in the mobile sector and unites over 750 operators from around 400 companies in a common industrial ecosystem. These include mobile phone device and software manufacturers, equipment suppliers and Internet companies, as well as representatives of related industries. The headquarters of the association is located in London.
