The South Korean company KHNP won the tender for the construction of two new units of the Dukovany NPP. in the Czech Republic. “The Korean proposal was better in almost all evaluated criteria”, quoted the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Peter Fiala, as quoted by the news portal irozhlas.cz.

According to him, the proposed price for one unit, provided that two reactors are built, is about 8.7 billion USD. “Building two blocks at once will save more than 20%”, noted Fiala.

Five companies initially submitted bids for the contract. In addition to South Korea's KHNP, France's EDF made it to the final selection. Other companies include Russia's Rosatom and China's CGN, whose bids were ultimately excluded from the tender by the previous government of Andrei Babish “for security reasons”.

US company Westinghouse effectively withdrew from the competition at the end of January when Czech national energy company EZ and the government announced they had failed to meet requirements to ensure the project was delivered turnkey, including such aspects as a commitment to complete the first block in 2036 and meet the contract price.
