In 2024, the world's nuclear power plant electricity production has reached its highest level in history, and in the last 10 years about 60% of newly commissioned nuclear reactors are in Russia and China. This is reported by the leading Japanese economic newspaper Nikkei, citing its own calculations and data from the Japan Nuclear Industry Forum, which unites companies from this branch in the country.
According to their information, as of June this year, there were 436 nuclear reactors in the world. They are capable of generating about 416 million kW of electricity. This surpasses the 2018 record of almost 414.5 kW.
In the last 10 years, nearly 80 new nuclear reactors have been put into operation around the world. "China and Russia have become the driving forces of this process," the newspaper emphasizes. As the publication notes, they represent 48 reactors put into operation. The newspaper believes that nuclear power plants will occupy an increasingly prominent place in the world economy, in which the process of transition to ecologically clean types of energy is accelerating.
