Ukraine expects more than USD 1 billion from the World Bank and EUR 150 million from the EU - 1

Ukraine expects to receive over USD 1 billion from the World Bank in the form of a preferential loan and EUR 150 million from the European Union. “Today we made the right decision. These funds (note ed. 1 billion USD from the World Bank) were accumulated thanks to the governments of Japan and Great Britain. Another decision today will allow us to attract an additional 150 million euros from the European Union”, Prime Minister Denis Schmigal wrote on his Telegram channel.

Earlier, Shmigal announced that Kiev received a grant from Washington in the amount of 1.35 billion USD and expressed confidence that the Ukrainian government will continue to work with Western partners to “mobilize financial resources” . In total, since February 2022, as reported by Verkhovna Rada deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak, Ukraine has received more than USD 100 billion in direct financing from Western countries.

Kiev has repeatedly stated that the country can independently cover only items from the military budget, everything else is financed with the help of allies. The Rada is considering a draft budget for 2025 that includes a deficit of 1.6 trillion hryvnias ($38.68 billion). At the same time, Western partners strongly recommend Kiev to look for more sources of self-financing.
