Europe is drawing gas from underground storage more slowly - 1

European countries have slowed the pace of gas withdrawals from underground storage (UGS) amid the warm weather, according to data from Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE). Since the start of the heating season, Europe has withdrawn more than 21.5 billion cubic meters from underground gas storage.

Gas on the stock exchange in Europe is traded at a price of about 440 USD per 1,000 cubic meters. "Gazprom" supplies gas to Europe via transit through Ukraine at a rate of 42.4 million cubic meters per day to the "Sudzha" gas metering station (GIS) in the Kursk region.

"Gazprom" supplies Russian gas for transit through the territory of Ukraine in a volume confirmed by the Ukrainian side through the Sudzha GIS - 42.4 million cubic meters on December 19. Application for the GIS "Sokhranovka" rejected", a representative of "Gazprom" told reporters. The previous day, the pumping volume also amounted to 42.4 million cubic meters.

The withdrawal of gas from UGS facilities in the EU countries on December 17, according to GIE data, amounted to 475 million cubic meters. At the same time, the injection turned out to be 28 million cubic meters. Now UGSs in Europe are filled by 77.09% (3.06% lower than the average for this date for the last five years), contain 85.6 billion cubic meters. gas.

The heating season in Europe began on October 29, 2024 (10 days earlier than in the last autumn-winter season), and since then, EU countries have withdrawn more than 21.5 billion cubic meters of gas from storage. At the same time, the total withdrawal of gas from underground gas storage facilities on the 50th day after reaching their maximum filling is 45% higher than the average value for that day for the previous five years. The last season of gas withdrawal from European underground storage facilities ended on March 31, 2024, when 58.34% of the reserves remained in them.

The current week in Europe is warmer than the previous seven-day week. The share of wind energy in electricity production in the EU in December is 20%. The average purchase price of gas in November in Europe was 491 USD per 1000 cubic meters, and in December - so far around 485 USD.

LNG receipts from terminals in the European gas transportation system in mid-December are record highs for this period of time. Currently, the capacity for regasification of liquefied gas and its further injection into European pipelines is loaded at 49% of the maximum.
