US President-elect Donald Trump has announced his intention to impose increased import tariffs on the EU if Brussels does not increase purchases of US oil and gas.
„I told the EU that it must compensate for the huge trade deficit with the US by significantly increasing purchases of our oil and gas. Otherwise, he will face full tariffs!“, Trump wrote on his page on the social network Truth Social.
Trump will officially take office on January 20, 2025.
In his speeches at election rallies, he promised not only to reduce the US trade deficit by introducing tariffs on imports of goods from the EU, but also to force entrepreneurs to move their factories to American territory.
Brussels believes that the fulfillment of the Republican's promises, especially regarding the German auto industry, could be a disaster for most of the largest EU economies.
