Turkey will help neighboring Syria solve the energy problems it faces. “The country is currently experiencing serious problems in the energy sector. I hope we can quickly overcome all their energy problems. Our Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources will provide them with all possible assistance“, Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan told journalists after returning from Cairo, where he participated in the G-8 Islamic summit on Thursday. His statements were quoted by the TRT Haber television channel.

Turkey will increase trade with Syria, which will help ensure peace and stability in the region. Erdogan also spoke in favor of the voluntary return of Syrian refugees to their homeland. “We do not expel people who seek asylum in our country. We tell them: “Return home, but voluntarily“, Erdogan noted.

According to the Turkish Interior Ministry, there may be just over 2.9 million Syrian refugees in the republic. Erdogan had earlier announced plans to ensure the return of about 1 million refugees to Syria.
