The head of the US Office of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Elon Musk and his team will be able to reveal hundreds of billions of dollars in unjustified expenses during audits of the education and defense departments. This assessment was made by US President Donald Trump.
“I will soon tell him to check the Department of Education, and then the Department of Defense. Let's check the military. We will find billions, hundreds of billions of dollars lost through fraud and abuse of power“, the American leader said in an interview with Fox News.
Earlier, The New York Times reported that DOGE had launched an investigation into the US Department of Education. According to The Wall Street Journal, the Trump administration is considering issuing an executive order that could lead to the agency’s complete liquidation. Amid the debate over its future, dozens of department employees have been placed on administrative leave.
Immediately after Trump took office, DOGE began a large-scale audit of US budget spending. In total, Musk expects to reduce US government spending by 2 trillion USD. In fact, at Musk’s initiative, the US Agency for International Development was temporarily closed for further reorganization.
