Retailers in Finland go on strike - 1

Strikes in the retail sector will begin next week, the Service Workers' Union (PAM) and the employers' representative, the Trade Association, announced.

According to PAM, the action will affect about 70,000 employees and managers and about 3,000 stores.

The strike will start on Monday morning in the retail logistics sector and continue on Wednesday in stores. The strike in logistics will continue until Thursday morning, and in stores until Saturday morning.

"We are still too far from a compromise with the employers and the state mediator has not presented any proposal for a solution either," said PAM chair Annika Rönni-Salinen.

The union is demanding a 10 percent increase in workers' wages.

According to PAM, all stores in the K-Market, K-Supermarket, K-Citymarket, Lidl, Halpa-Halli, Tokmanni, Alepa, Sale, S-Market, Prisma and Sokos chains, as well as some ABC stores, will participate in the strike.
