Electric carmaker Tesla has started recruiting in India following its CEO Elon Musk's recent meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Washington, the company announced on the social network Linkedin.
Candidates are being sought for 13 positions, including advisors, operators and customer service specialists. Five vacancies have been announced for the metropolitan city of Mumbai, the rest for New Delhi.
On February 13, Modi met with Musk in Washington. They discussed strengthening cooperation between Indian and American companies in the field of innovation and artificial intelligence, as well as issues of effective public administration.
In 2023, Musk submitted an investment proposal to the Indian government to locate his company Tesla in the country, which was agreed with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The proposal includes building a plant to produce 500,000 electric cars per year, localizing production and exporting products to third countries. The minimum price of the models produced will be around $25,000. The American automaker has also expressed its intention to manufacture batteries in India to reduce costs.
The Indian electric vehicle market is still small, accounting for only about 2% of the country's total car sales, which are expected to reach 4 million vehicles in 2024. Indian authorities want to increase the share of electric vehicles to 30% by 2030.
