“This is one of the important events for us, because this year we are focusing extremely much on wine tourism. Bulgaria is a country that makes good wine and organizes events for good wine. We are showing this today and will prove it again in October, when we will host one of the largest forums – the Ninth UN Tourism Global Conference. Bulgaria deserves and will take its rightful place on the map of world wine tourism“, emphasized the Minister of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh during the official opening.

Bulgaria is hosting the “world wine championship“ for the first time for this variety, and the partners of the event are the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Burgas Municipality and the company Probegex – official representative of CMB for the country. This year's competition marks a record Bulgarian participation with 56 samples from local producers, who will compete with wines from 25 other countries. For 20 years, the competition has been organized in iconic wine countries such as France, Spain, Austria and Italy, and now for the first time Bulgaria is hosting the Sauvignon Blanc edition.

Almost half of the international jury is made up of journalists who will cover the event and publish articles about Bulgaria. Among them are Anik Gumaz, a Swiss journalist from the largest wine magazine in Switzerland – VINUM, who will prepare a special publication for a gourmet weekend in Sofia, as well as Mathilde Hulot – winner of the French Prix Curnonsky award, which will visit wineries in the Burgas region and publish materials in French and German specialized publications.

Concours Mondial du Sauvignon is part of the global Concours Mondial de Bruxelles competition, which tastes over 15,000 wines every year and is renowned as the most rigorous and professional wine competition in the world, and its medals are considered a prestigious sign of quality in the global wine industry.
