Coffee prices are abnormally high - 1

Antonio Baravalle, CEO of the Italian company Lavazza, one of the world's largest coffee producers, believes there should be a limit on the rise in the price of coffee beans and the rise in the price of the drink in cafes. In an interview with the Financial Times newspaper he expressed the opinion that the global coffee market is facing a collapse.

„When I see an espresso for three or four pounds in London or a cappuccino for eight in New York, I know there should be a limit. It's like the New York Stock Exchange: it grows, grows, grows, and you understand that sooner or later everything will collapse“, said the businessman.

According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), natural disasters in Brazil and Vietnam, as well as in other leading coffee producing and exporting countries, will lead to an even greater increase in bean prices.

As the publication notes, many producers, trying to mitigate the rise in coffee prices, began to buy cheaper varieties of beans and transferred part of the costs to consumers, which led to a decline in demand for the drink.

From 2020 to 2025, the price of coffee on world markets increased fourfold.
