Nissan cuts Rogue production due to Trump tariffs - 1

Japanese automaker Nissan Motor Co. will reduce production in Japan of its best-selling model in the United States - the Rogue crossover - to mitigate the impact of import tariffs imposed by the administration of US President Donald Trump, Reuters reported, citing its sources.

Nissan plans to reduce production of the Rogue by 13,000 vehicles. The agency's source, who asked not to be named, said that the automaker's plant located on the island of Kyushu in the southwestern part of the country will slow production from May to June.

As the agency notes, the Rogue became Nissan's best-selling model in the United States in 2024. It accounts for more than a quarter of the automaker's total sales in the US market - almost 246 thousand cars. In the first three months of this year, 62,000 crossovers of this model were sold in the US.

On April 8, the Kyodo news agency, citing the authorities of Fukuoka Prefecture, reported that Nissan is considering moving part of its production capacity from Japan to the United States due to Trump's tariffs. In particular, it is reported that the company plans to increase car production at a plant in the US state of Tennessee.

On April 2, the American leader announced the introduction of tariffs on products from 185 countries and territories. Additional tariffs of 24% were approved for goods from Japan. In addition, the US administration imposed additional tariffs of 25% on all imported cars from April 3, which also seriously affected Japanese interests.

Later, on April 9, Trump announced that he was suspending tariff increases for 90 days for 75 countries that had shown a willingness to negotiate. They will be subject to import tariffs of 10%.
