Vladimir Putin approved an updated nuclear doctrine. According to her, Russia may consider using nuclear weapons if it comes under a nuclear-backed missile attack. This appears to be a response to the Biden administration allowing Ukraine to launch long-range US missiles deep into Russian territory.
„As the nuclear doctrine is written, Russia is at war with NATO”, commented in the studio of “Hello, Bulgaria” on Nova TV, the international security expert prof. Rumen Kanchev.
„The emphasis in current nuclear doctrine is on being able to pre-empt a nuclear strike if there is a strategic threat. While the emphasis in the previous doctrine was rather defensive,” explained journalist Valery Todorov.
Prof. Kanchev with the update of the nuclear doctrine in question, now at any time the Russian president has the right to give an order to strike. “NATO still does not have a similar doctrine through which it is possible to react quickly”, he added.
According to Prof. Kanchev since the beginning of the war, until now, Russia follows the concept of a “nuclear trap”. “It consists of Russia blackmailing Ukraine from the very beginning by saying that it has a nuclear weapon with which it can strike,” added Prof. Kanchev.
„The Trump team is discussing several options for resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. One of them is how long the Western countries can support Ukraine at the rate it is doing at the moment, he added.
According to Todorov, the unfortunate thing in this case is that all options involve territorial concessions on the part of Ukraine.
