Risk of ecological disaster in Jendema after animal carcasses were found - 1

Risk of ecological disaster in the reserve "Jendema" over Kalofer. Animal carcasses were found. It is currently being checked whether the dead animals were sick. The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency and the Prosecutor's Office have been contacted. The action was unprecedented in Bulgaria, reported BNT.

Strong smell and carcasses, skins, heads and hooves. The employees of the "Central Balkan" National Park came across this terrifying sight. during the action in the reserve "Jendema" a day ago.

"Until now, I never imagined that I could come across such a sight and situation in a reserve. A whole buffalo and parts of skins, heads - also from ungulates, at least 10 in number", said Kolyo Angelov - head of the "Control and security" department.

All the carcasses and parts of dead animals were found near a van with special windows owned by a breeder from Kalofer. According to the park director, the van was illegally placed.

"He may have many permits, but he has absolutely no right to any activity on the territory of the park,", says Georgi Krastev, director of the National Park "Central Balkan".

According to the owner of the van, everything is legal - a permit has been issued by the municipality to place a movable object and observe predators. The van was placed on private property and there is no poaching involved. The Municipality of Karlovo confirmed that they have issued a permit to place a temporary object, but they have no relation to what it is used for.

"These are animals from illegal dumps all over the municipality - legs, skins and I take them there. This is a place to watch for predators. I want to make a place where you can watch a bear and a vulture at the same time. I claim that this is not within the boundaries of the reserve, it is not even within the boundaries of the park," said Todor Dikliev - owner of a van in Kalofer.

From NP "Central Balkan" explained that there is a decision of the Supreme Court that this is a reserve and such activity cannot be carried out. The director of the park stated that they have contacted the BABH and the prosecutor's office to start an immediate investigation into the case, since it is not known whether these animals were not sick.

"We are facing an ecological catastrophe, because vultures have been registered on the territory of the park more than once, crossing into Greece, Romania. Spreading diseases, luring predators, they gather in one place and what will happen to them, no one knows", commented Georgi Krastev - director of NP "Central Balkan".

Until now "Central Balkan" has issued several acts of violations for thousands of BGN to Todor Dikliev. He was first spotted placing parts of dead animals at the same location late last year.
