The official opening of the ski season in Bansko was marked by a downhill run on the “Alberto Tomba“ slope. The event attracted the attention of media and sports enthusiasts, bringing together world-famous names from white sports and ambassadors of Bansko.
A competition between two teams led by legendary skiers Marc Girardelli and Michael Wallhofer kicked off the program at Banderishka Polyana. The Minister of Tourism Evtim Miloshev also joined the Girardelli team, while Valhofer's team was supported by the Mayor of Bansko, Stoycho Banevski.
Early in the morning, football legend Hristo Stoichkov was the first to hit the slopes in the ski area, and later participated in the official opening, calling: “Come to Bansko, it's a pleasure“.
Minister Evtim Miloshev emphasized the importance of tourism for the economic development and sustainability of regions: “Tourism develops regions, small businesses and is the face of our country. The mountain is magical, there is a lot of snow. I invite everyone to enjoy this pleasure“.
“The forecasts that we have made in the Ministry of Tourism for growth for the entire winter season are about 5 percent, before the news from two days ago about our accession to land Schengen. We can expect over 300 million leva additional after our accession on January 1st“, added Minister Miloshev.
The Mayor of Bansko, Stoycho Banevski, shared his confidence in the city's readiness for the new season: “We are starting the winter with enough snow and professionalism in the product we offer, both on the slopes and in the accommodation and catering facilities“.
Michael Wallhofer expressed his admiration for Bansko: “It is an honor for me to be in Bansko. I am impressed by the slopes and the conditions here.“
“A very nice first day of skiing and the start of the season in Bansko. A great season is ahead, with the upcoming start of the World Cup“, added Marc Girardelli.
Minister Miloshev also emphasized the importance of sustainable tourism, which protects and preserves nature. “Bulgaria must develop its opportunities in tourism and seek a sustainable year-round product. The Ministry of Tourism supports the industry for preferential VAT for tourism and sports facilities. Bulgaria offers excellent service in terms of price-quality ratio”, added Minister Miloshev.
