For the first time since 2021, Sofia has a voted budget for cleanliness and landscaping, wrote Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev on his Facebook page.

Earlier today, the Sofia Municipal Council (SOC) adopted the cleanliness plan-account for 2025. "For" 31 municipal councilors voted, "Against" 25 were, and three councilors abstained out of a total of 58 municipal councilors who voted.

"Despite the sabotage by GERB-BSP, the Municipal Council accepted our proposal for a cleaner city," Terziev commented in his post. He adds that the 2025 budget plan includes important innovations for the city. Among them is an investment in a smart system for monitoring and managing garbage collection. It will provide data on the route, the time of task completion, and recognition in the event of an attempt to lift an unidentified container.

Terziev also points to biological cleaning of the yards of 459 kindergartens, schools, and social homes, as well as large cemetery parks. For the first time, the Municipality will relieve the directors of these institutions of tasks that are not typical for them, such as mowing and pruning trees, so that they can devote themselves to education and caring for our children, the mayor writes. Terziev also notes more street washing for cleaner air. 155,037 acres of streets with mass urban transport, of public importance, and inner-neighborhood streets will be washed eight times a year with tanker trucks with a hose, and 24 times a year, washing with nozzles is planned. In addition, 392,973 hectares of streets, street lanes and squares will be mechanized 22 times a month, Terziev explains.

The mayor also commented on a reduction in the municipal waste fee for businesses by 10% in the general case. The calculation will be carried out in a new, fairer way for everyone, including for companies that have taken advantage of the direct negotiation option. No increase in the fee for citizens is planned, Terziev writes.

In 2024, we showed that cleanliness and greenery in the city are our priority, the mayor commented and added that in 2025, Sofia residents and guests of the city will notice even more improvements.
