In seven regions of Western and Central Bulgaria, 191 snowplows are working on the roads of the republican road network, the "Road Infrastructure" Agency (API) announced.
Due to heavy snowfall, the movement of heavy goods vehicles over 12 tons through the "Troyanski", "Rozhen" and "Prevala" passes has been temporarily suspended.
The Republic Pass is also experiencing limited traffic due to snow removal. Passenger cars are being redirected through the "Shipka" pass, while heavy goods vehicles up to 12 tons are waiting on site.
Additional restrictions have been introduced in the Smolyan region for the movement of trucks with trailers and semi-trailers on several key roads:
API urges drivers to travel only in vehicles prepared for winter conditions. "Blocking traffic by vehicles that are not prepared for winter conditions makes it difficult for all other drivers to travel and for snow removal equipment to work," the agency states.
Road maintenance company teams are prioritizing highways, busy first-class and second-class roads, as well as the passes between Northern and Southern Bulgaria.
