Nadezhda Neynski: We need a pro-European reformist majority and government - 1

I really hope to see a government with a clear political agenda, with a clear reformist program and with people who live up to the expectations not only of Bulgarian citizens, but also of our partners.

This was said by the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, politician and diplomat Nadezhda Neynski, for FOCUS.

Bulgaria needs not a government at all, but a pro-European reformist majority and government, she emphasized. "Any government is not a solution to the problems. At some point, it could become an instrument for deepening these problems", believes Neynski.

More than ever, geopolitics currently determines the domestic political challenges facing every country, including Bulgaria. "The world is currently undergoing a very big change and bold and decisive actions are required from each country and taking responsibility. Taking responsibility can only be done by a government with a clear political orientation, with a clear majority and the people who are in it knowing that they have the support of this majority in parliament", Nadezhda Neynski was categorical.

A key moment for Bulgaria's future development is its admission to the eurozone. It can only enter there with a regular government, supported by a pro-European reformist majority. "This is not a formal act, this is an assessment based on the parameters of the development of the economy and our entire life", the diplomat emphasized.

Increasing defense spending is mandatory for the country to be a reliable partner of the European Union as part of its strategy for increasing security. She identified the rule of law and the integrity of elections as the biggest challenges facing the country. These important issues require taking clear political responsibility, Neinsky said.

"A pro-European majority must be formed around these decisions and on the basis of this - government. For me, there are many unknowns from a negotiation between GERB, BSP and ITN. Being a member of the European Union, Bulgaria cannot work contrary to the decisions that the European Union makes. The global challenges are currently extremely large. Europe is preparing for the new US leader, because relations between Europe and the US will be put to the test in the coming years", commented the former Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Europe is the natural ally of the US. Therefore, according to her, Donald Trump will not fulfill the requests for imposing higher tariffs and the conditions he sets for the European Union. – The lag of allies will weaken the US and encourage Trump's rivals. He is very aware of this“, explained Nadezhda Neynski.
