„It rained during the holidays and there was water in Pleven, but this is a temporary effect and most likely the dry period may occur in February, when everything freezes. It is very likely that there will be a water regime again then.“
This was announced by the Minister of Environment and Water Petar Dimitrov in an interview with bTV.
He explained that in the past we were leaders in the pace of development of these networks - water supply, energy and hydro-reclamation.
„Over 140 settlements are in the water regime. The general solution to this problem is a comprehensive reform of water control in Bulgaria. And at the moment, the management is fragmented, the responsibilities are not clear, they are blurred, many ministries, many institutions. There is no specific body to take care of this management, there is no adequate policy in this area. The solution to this issue is either to designate a single body that could manage these scarce resources, or it could be in improving communication and coordination between institutions and structures“, said the minister.
He explained that in the past we were leaders in this area.
„Our technologies are exported to Israel, they have developed them and they are at modern levels. And fortunately we have an agreement with Israel to support the development of water in Bulgaria“, said Dimitrov.
He also commented on the dirty air in Sofia.
„In Sofia, the problem with domestic heating is very serious. And we observe the excess of fine dust particles every year because of transport and heating, and the geographical location is also important. The measures taken by the Sofia Municipality are extremely adequate and have yielded results. The trend is towards constant improvement of air quality throughout the country, including in Sofia“, said the Minister of Environment.
He also explained that the death of the mountain finches in Koprivshtitsa was caused by human activity, more precisely by the fireworks on New Year's Day.
“If there are established rules, we are not against these events, we have attracted scientists and have analyzed things“, added Dimitrov.
He said that for a fee the polluter pays“ - i.e. to calculate the garbage fee not based on the tax assessment of the property we live in, but based on – the amount of garbage we throw away - the garbage fee will not become more expensive. Quite the opposite - it is expected that the garbage fee will become lower for citizens.
