The forensic experts' active actions were taken after receiving operational information that a man from Shumen was growing hemp plants. Actions were immediately taken to disrupt the criminal activity, with the specialized police operation beginning in the morning hours of January 14.
A greenhouse with 180 hemp plants in the final phase of development was discovered in a building on Usta Kolyu Ficheto Street in Varna. The room, in working order, was equipped with lighting fixtures, air conditioning installations, ventilation, fertilizers and preparations to stimulate the growth of cannabis plants.
It also had a specially built air and temperature control system. At the scene, the forensic experts detained a 52-year-old man from Shumen, who was taking care of growing cannabis. 4.5 kg of dry grass mass was also found and seized, which reacted to the field test for marijuana. The case was reported to a prosecutor from the competent prosecutor's office and all actions in the investigation were carried out under his supervision. The Shumen resident was detained for up to 24 hours in the Third District - Varna for committing a crime under Articles 354A and 354B, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.
As part of the investigation, the forensic experts also discovered a second drug greenhouse. Actions are pending to document the crime, as well as to clarify and establish the identities of all participants in the criminal activity.
