It is risky, but it is necessary for the Bulgarian government to request a convergence report. This was explained to the Bulgarian National Radio by Prof. Daniela Bobeva, financier, lecturer and former Deputy Prime Minister.
"Now we are in a good gap and an opportunity to adopt the euro. The clouds over the fiscal are quite a lot and are thickening".
If now in the calculation of inflation, one country is removed, then we fully cover the criterion, explained Prof. Bobeva.
Whether this will happen depends on the reports of the EC and the ECB, she also pointed out in the program "Nedelya 150".
"Eurostat published the data on inflation in the EU, which made it possible to calculate an inflation criterion, which was problematic for us. We did not fulfill it, but the difference between the criterion and Bulgarian inflation was constantly decreasing. Now, however - with the data from December inflation, we deviate by very little.
If our inflation were just a little - by 0.1%, lower, we would cover the inflation criterion. This gave us the opportunity to request an assessment of whether we meet all the criteria and thus adopt the European currency at the beginning of next year.
In most cases, three countries are removed. In this way, the inflation criterion becomes higher and the countries that want to enter the eurozone can more easily cover it. This is not an adjustment of the data".
We do not know when the EC and the ECB will assess us, she explained.
"If they assess us with December inflation, we enter. However, if we raise it a lot in January, this will be reflected".
