Yotova: I hope that with the election of a regular cabinet, the political crisis has ended - 1

Vice president Iliana Yotova expressed hope that the political crisis has ended with the election of a regular cabinet. She is a guest at the Tenth Sofia Library Awards for Writer and Reader of the Year, BTA reports.

When asked by a journalist whether the political crisis has ended with the election of a regular cabinet, Yotova replied: “I strongly hope that it has ended“. My thesis has always been for a strong political cabinet, not one that is equidistant and expert, so that it is clear who bears responsibility and who takes on the complexity of the decisions that lie ahead, said the vice president.

Asked on what the stability of the government depends on, she pointed out that it depends on the attention being truly focused on solving many problems that are immediate - prices, water, electricity, and on the courage to undertake serious and long-term reforms, which require a very stable majority. If they manage to do this, they will be a successful cabinet, believes Iliyana Yotova.

When asked whether the parliament will be able to elect representatives to the Supreme Judicial Council in the next six months, the vice president commented that it depends on many things - first, what the ruling majority will propose. In fact, the first signal and the first filter will be the way in which this commission, which is composed of the leaderships of the four parties, will be formed today, its focus, its behavior towards the opposition, she said. According to her, one good thing is that if until yesterday there was talk about who is which opposition and who is the larger opposition, today there is already talk about governance.

Asked if she expects changes after the inauguration of the new US President Donald Trump in terms of relations with Bulgaria and Europe, Iliana Yotova commented that Trump delivered a very strong speech, with very strong messages that still need to be analyzed. As for the focus on Europe, this is a speech and messages that Europe is worth thinking about, because yesterday's speech was, in my opinion, oriented entirely to the problems inside America, with very precise qualifications regarding corrupt elites and the fight against them, regarding the electricity crisis and new resources, regarding migration, regarding even, if you will, an administrative reform with the new commission or department, as he calls it, for efficient management, she pointed out. It is time for Europe to pay attention to its own policy, starting from the policy of stability and security and ending with financial and social policy, and I hope that this is exactly how European leaders will interpret these relations, added Yotova.

At the same time, we cannot help but be concerned about the very rapid withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement, we will yet see what the price is and what this means, because for now it is only a declaration, commented the Vice President.
