An unusual situation unfolded today in front of the Shumen General Hospital for Active Treatment (GHAT), where a 21-year-old woman gave birth to twins right next to the entrance to the medical facility.
The young mother from the village of Yablanovo, Sliven district, was transported by private car after labor pains began early this morning. Upon arrival at the hospital, the birth was already in an advanced stage, with the father assisting with the birth of the first baby, after which he sought emergency medical help, Radio Shumen reported.
The Head of the Neonatology Department at Shumen General Hospital, Dr. Lilyana Kuzdova, told Radio Shumen: "The birth was three weeks before term, which is normal in a multiple pregnancy".
"The babies weigh 2,450 and 2,755 grams. They have been placed in incubators and are on oxygen therapy. This is necessary because the birth was under unusual circumstances, in a non-sterile environment and outside a hospital facility," added Dr. Kuzdova.
A medical team assisted in the birth of the second baby. The newborn boys are currently under the supervision of neonatologists, and the teams of the maternity and neonatal departments are carrying out the necessary examinations and tests. According to the doctors, the condition of the mother and the twins is good.
