"BSP – United Left has always approached the state of public finances with extreme attention and concern. At the very beginning of the work of this National Assembly, we held a meeting with the acting Minister of Finance, Ms. Lyudmila Petkova, and after the submission of the draft Budget 2025 by the acting cabinet, we called for a hearing in the plenary hall. Unfortunately, the information we received then is confirmed today – the state of our public finances is worrying" - said MP Atanas Atanasov during the hearing of the Minister of Finance.
"It is high time to raise the issue of progressive taxation as a means of reducing income differences and for a fairer distribution of the burden on different social groups. The greatest burden falls on the shoulders of the most vulnerable members of society and those with the lowest incomes. The conversation about changing the tax system must begin, because only in this way can the scissors of inequalities be closed" – Atanas Atanasov emphasized.
In his words, the BSP – United Left will not back down from its key priorities in the budget, which guarantee social justice and economic stability. The Socialists also declared themselves categorically against any possible cuts in social spending at the expense of fiscal discipline, which affects the most vulnerable groups in society.
"For us, the welfare state is not an expense, but an investment in the future of Bulgaria. We will continue to advocate for adequate financing of healthcare and education, as well as support for Bulgarian pensioners and young families. Only in this way can we guarantee sustainable and fair development of the country" – Atanasov stated.
