Lily Collins welcomed her first child - from a surrogate mother. At the end of January, the actress, who played the main role in the series "Emily in Paris" announced to the world with a post on Instagram that she and her husband Charlie McDowell had welcomed their first child.
"Welcome to our world, Tove Jane McDowell", she wrote and explained that the baby was from a surrogate mother. "Words will never express our endless gratitude for the incredible lady who became our surrogate mother and everyone who helped us. We love you to the moon and back...", the star concluded.
However, the happy event also attracted a lot of negativity on social media. In the comments section, Collins' husband Charlie McDowell hit back at the criticism and stigma surrounding surrogacy.
“Thank you for the kind messages and love. We are extremely happy and very grateful”, he wrote. “Regarding the unkind messages about surrogacy and our journey to having a baby - it's best not to think of yourself as an expert on the subject.“
He continued: “It's okay to not know why someone might need a surrogate to have a child. It's okay to not know the motives, no matter what you assume. And it's even better to spend less time spewing hate, especially about a beautiful little girl who has brought so much love into people's lives.“
