Vasil Pandov: Price regulation must comply with certain rules - 1

We will participate in filling the regulators. An opposition must be active and we will propose candidates. Good candidates should not be politically affiliated and cannot be universal. This was stated by Vasil Pandov from “We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (PP-DB) in the program “Face to Face“ on BTV.

“We proposed changes to the regulations, as a principle of good governance. At the moment, in the way in which the procedures for selecting chairmen of regulators were opened, we are again applying bad practices. We proposed an integrity check on candidates, but this proposal was not accepted in any committee. The argument was that this was always done, and it was also a form of discrimination," he explained.

Vasil Pandov also commented on the proposal for a cap on markups. "This issue is raised at different intervals. Price regulation must comply with certain rules, such as for medicines. Our position is that laws that are introduced to meet some expectation of society will not solve the problem," he emphasized.

“This issue is linked to the other topic about the management of regulators. The problem is that our regulators do not work effectively and this has been proven over the years. What regulators can do at the moment is not small and we must use their capabilities," the politician believes.

When asked whether the PP-DB will support the budget, Pandov replied that a debate is underway on the issue. According to him, they will support it if it is suitable for acceptance into the eurozone, and if it does not exceed 40% of the costs. It should not contain unjustified capital expenditures, such as the unjustified ones in the security structures“, the PP-DB representative emphasized.

“Regarding the NHIF budget, we expect to see a continuation of the policies of previous years – for prophylaxis and prevention, child and maternal healthcare. But let's see, because at the moment we do not have any data. We will insist on improving patients' access to medicinal products. This is the case throughout Europe“, he also said.
