On 12.02.25, at the University Hospital "Pirogov" after a long illness, the only winner of the game "Get Rich" in Bulgaria, Assen Angelov, passed away.
Assen Angelov was born in Sofia on April 19, 1946. His father - Blagoy Angelov, a graduate of the American College in Sofia, was a doctor at the American Legation and died early. Assen Angelov's mother - Petra Dilkova is one of the five children of Dimitar Dilkov - before 1944, an entrepreneur and co-owner of cultural institutes in Sofia. Petra Dilkova lived until 2019, when she passed away in her sleep at the age of 95.
Assen Angelov graduated from the 9th high school (in the French High School building), which was steps away from his home - a neat house with a turret, which was located on Vasil Levski Blvd. (after its nationalization, a cooperative was built in its place next to the Odeon cinema). After graduating from VIAS, Assen Angelov worked as a civil engineer in various design organizations, at the American College in Sofia and in Varna, where he was the chief engineer at the construction of the Varna business park. He also worked as a civil engineer in Tanzania, Africa, and then conquered Kilimanjaro, offnews reports.
At 26, he married Natalia Nikolova - a physicist, one of the first IT specialists-programmers in Bulgaria. Their daughter is the journalist and actress Iskra Angelova.
Assen Angelov is a member and co-founder of the club of the most intelligent people in the world MENSA in Bulgaria, he is known among his friends for his high IQ (165). Before 1989, together with his wife, they were frequent visitors to the cinema-lectures in the cinema “Druzhba“, the jazz meetings in the hall “Universiada“ and the Kinopanorama. Extremely erudite, Assen Angelov is a tireless reader and encyclopedist, he can rarely be seen without a book and a cigarette in his mouth. He climbs Cherni Vrah almost every week.
After retiring, he continued to pursue his interests in the fields of cinema, jazz, pop music and rock and roll, good literature and travel.
Asen Angelov has a daughter, Iskra, and a granddaughter, Alisa Piperova.
