We are planning to launch a procedure for granting a concession to Plovdiv Airport. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadjov during a meeting with the aviation industry. “There should be more business and less state in our aviation. I support the idea that the aviation business should take over the management of Plovdiv Airport and invest in its development not only as a civil but also as a cargo airport. Concession analyses are to be made regarding the procedure with the relevant conclusions and recommendations“, said Grozdan Karadjov. He emphasized that airports in Bulgaria should be granted a concession, as is the European experience, and not be supported by the state.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that another important policy for his team is to ease the administrative burdens for business. “The Directorate General of Civil Aviation is working on the digitalization of all administrative services and this process will soon be completed. Aviation is a dynamic sector and saving time and money is essential for its development“, noted Grozdan Karadjov.
During the talks, other important issues related to the training of personnel in aviation, infrastructure and the organization of access to the apron in the northern region of Sofia Airport, the preparation of a legislative framework for drones, the development of small airports, etc. were also discussed.
