BNB: We strongly condemn any attempt at political interference - 1

"The BNB is an independent institution and strongly condemns any attempt at political interference in its activities. Such attempts are unacceptable both from the point of view of the law and the institutional order in the country". This was written by the management of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) in its official position on the occasion of the "political action" of "Vazrazhdane".

Representatives of the party went to the bank's building on Monday, demanding a meeting with a group from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which, according to their information, was in our country "to participate in an attempt to falsify data on the budget deficit". The formation also claims that “the data was sent by Kristalina Georgieva and their goals are twofold - manipulating the deficit on an accrual basis for the fourth quarter of 2024 and preparing the draft budget for 2025 with artificially improved parameters, aiming at “Greek“ coverage of the Maastricht deficit criterion”. for a meeting

"Today, at 10:30 a.m., an attempt was made to hold a political action in the BNB building by the “Vazrazhdane“ party. Bulgarian law and European law do not allow such events in the Central Bank building. On this occasion, we consider it necessary to publicly state the following: the BNB is an independent institution and strongly condemns any attempt at political interference in its activities. Such attempts are unacceptable both from the point of view of the law and the institutional order in the country. The place for political disputes, in which the political party "Vazrazhdane" is trying to involve the Central Bank, is in the National Assembly, within the framework of the political debate. We call on the Parliament and other competent state institutions to support with all the rigor of the law the right of the BNB and other independent institutions to exercise their statutory mandate without political pressure," reads the full position of the BNB.
