The Committee on Internal Security and Public Order in the National Assembly adopted at first reading the Draft Law on the State Budget of the Republic of Bulgaria for 2025 - in the part of the budget of the Ministry of Interior. The members of the National Assembly voted with 13 votes “for“, four votes “against“ and two “abstained“.
Deputy Minister of Interior Filip Popov stated during the budget presentation that the planned increase in salaries is not “on a cap“, but is differentiated in accordance with the category of civil servant.
He pointed out that the planned basic salary for a police officer or firefighter is 2296 leva, while the same is now 1466 leva. A police inspector, a civil servant with a higher education, in a regional directorate of the Ministry of Interior will receive 2804 leva, and the new basic salaries of the management staff vary from 3100 leva to 5000 leva. for the Director of the Main Directorate, while the current remuneration is 3659 leva.
The Minister and the political leadership will demand a serious increase in the quality and efficiency of work in the Ministry of Internal Affairs after the salary increase, Popov added.
The budget presentation also indicated the distribution of expenses in the Ministry of Internal Affairs budget by policies. 2 billion and 490 million leva are planned for combating crime and maintaining public order, 646 million and 272 thousand leva for border protection and control of migration processes - 677 million and 774 thousand leva for fire safety and protection of the population - 321 million and 533 thousand leva, and for management and development of the Ministry of Internal Affairs system - 321 million and 533 thousand leva.
