Inflation in our country continues to grow. This is shown by the latest data from the National Statistical Institute (NSI), BTV reported.
In one month - from January to February, goods and services have become more expensive by 0.6%, and in one year - by 4%, the NSI reports.
In February, the largest increase was in “Communications“ - 2.3%. But also in alcohol and tobacco products, in restaurants and hotels, culture and in food.
There was a decrease in “Clothing and footwear“ and household goods.
Against this background, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food predicts a 20% drop in prices if the proposed changes to the Food Law are adopted.
The changes provide for different limits on mark-ups along the entire chain - from the farm through processors to retail chains.
In order to make food more accessible, the ministry provides for maximum mark-ups on the value of agricultural products:
for processors - up to 20%
for wholesalers - up to 10%
for retailers - 20%
for agricultural products imported from third countries - up to 10%
It is also proposed that in large chains at least 50% of the assortment be from Bulgarian producers.
The legislative changes also provide for a mandatory written contract between the producer and the first reseller, and for the first reseller to register with the Ministry of Agriculture, the bill also provides.
