Plugchieva: I am horrified by Von der Leyen's appeal to prepare for war against Russia - 1

Europe has taken an extreme position of rearmament and confrontation with the USA, Russia and China. I am horrified by the appeal of the President of the European Commission, who said that Europe must prepare for war against Russia. This is a very dangerous trend. From a "dove of peace" the European Union is turning into the most terrifying "hawk" of war.

This was told to FOCUS by the long-time ambassador, former Deputy Prime Minister for European Funds, Member of Parliament in three parliamentary constituencies and Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Meglena Plugchieva.

According to her, European society will not allow this, since it does not have a militaristic attitude. It also does not have the potential and capacity to wage war. Europe is in an extremely unfavorable economic and political situation. "The European Union provides only 14% of world GDP and lags far behind the US and China. It finds itself in a bitter sandwich of the new policy from the White House of political nationalism and protectionism and the productive power of China. Given that it is so economically weakened, has lost competitiveness, has demographic problems, lags behind in technology and everything else, instead of focusing its efforts on stabilizing the economy, the European Union is embarking on this very path of militarization and is completely trampling on the Maastricht criteria, which are the basis of the European Union“, commented Plugchieva.

The rearmament of European countries must be done through colossal loans that must be repaid by future generations, she noted. Southern European countries are not inclined to take out loans for rearmament. "This is a financial burden and a doom for future generations. A simple calculation for Germany shows that every German has 10,000 euros in debt. When the real economy and production are in a disadvantageous situation, in recession, when the eurozone is already highly indebted, when the ECB shows losses of 7.9 billion for 2024, and the national bank of Germany - 19.2 billion, instead of focusing efforts on restoring competitiveness and investing in real production, we go to the other pole - full militarization and investments through loans in the military industry,“ Meglena Plugchieva pointed out.

European security can be achieved not through rearmament, but through diplomacy and political decisions, she emphasized.
