Gutsanov: The topic of autism should be in the focus of society throughout the year - 1

“The topic of autism should be in the focus of society throughout the year”. This was stated by the Minister of Labor and Social Policy Borislav Gutsanov, who opened the photo exhibition “Through my and your eyes“ with works by Sevdalin Tlachenski and his mentor – photographer Alexander Nikolov. The talented student at the New Bulgarian University majoring in “Film and television cinematography“ is on the autistic spectrum. The event at the “Central Halls” Stage in Sofia is on the occasion of April 2 – International Autism Awareness Day.

Minister Gutsanov emphasized that the issue of autism should not remain in the focus of society only at the beginning of April. “We will do everything to ensure more effective support for children and their families throughout the year. With the team at the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy (MLSP), we will work actively to raise awareness on the topic and create better opportunities for specialists for timely diagnosis and work with people on the autism spectrum“, he added.

Borislav Gutsanov drew attention to the fact that over 60 million people around the world are autistic. “They are part of our community and have their own unique perception of the world. They are extremely gifted and this exhibition shows it in the most eloquent way“, the minister said.

The exhibition is organized by the “Help for People with Developmental Disabilities“ Foundation with the support of the MLSP. Within the framework of the event, a ceramic exhibition-bazaar of the youth from the "Art and Leap" Creative Center was also presented. It was created with funding from the Ministry under the Operational Program "Human Resources Development" and has recently become a social enterprise, providing employment to people from vulnerable groups. A special dance performance was presented by the students from the "Dr. Petar Beron" school and young people from the "Assistance to Persons with Developmental Problems" Foundation.
