The findings collected so far regarding the incident that led to the death of a UN employee, reviewed by the General Staff Fact-Finding and Assessment Mechanism, headed by Major General (retd) Yoav Har-Even, were presented to the Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, and to UN representatives, the Israeli armed forces reported on its official Telegram channel.

The IDF regrets this serious incident and continues to conduct in-depth review processes and evaluate additional measures to prevent similar events in the future.

"We express our deep sorrow for the loss and send our condolences to the family," the IDF also stated.

On March 19 2025, a report was received from UN representatives regarding the death of a UN staff member who was in the Deir al-Bala area. The incident was referred to the General Staff Fact-Finding and Assessment Mechanism for consideration and a thorough review is currently underway.

According to the findings gathered so far, the investigation indicates that the death was caused by tank fire from IDF troops operating in the area. The building was hit due to an estimated enemy presence and was not identified as a UN target, the Israeli army added.

In accordance with the instructions of the Chief of General Staff, the investigation will be completed in the coming days, pending the receipt of the necessary additional information. The Chief of General Staff also ordered that the full findings be presented to UN representatives after the process is completed.

"As part of the IDF's commitment to transparency and dialogue with international structures, the IDF shared the data collected so far with the UN. The IDF attaches great importance to continued interaction with international organizations as part of efforts to improve coordination, implement lessons learned, and prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future," the position further states.
