Former Acting Minister of Interior Ivan Demerdzhiev comments on the accusation that was brought against him by the prosecutor's office earlier today for mismanagement in the amount of over 1.4 million leva.
He believes that the accusation was brought against him after his statements in connection with the cigarette smuggling channel in Plovdiv. He accused the leader of "DPS-New Beginning" of "using his clubs", reports "Focus".
"When you reveal Peevski's influence in the Ministry of Interior and the umbrella he has spread against smuggling. When you make him silent and unable to answer elementary and specific journalistic questions, he reacts in the only possible way – "is using his clubs against the institutions he has taken over," Demerdzhiev wrote on his Facebook page.
He also explains the case in which he was charged:
"After his minister Kalin Stoyanov proudly took a picture with the new identity documents and thanks to them we were accepted into Schengen, someone decided that the law was violated when the contract was concluded. The indexation under the contract was necessary due to the long period from the submission of the offers at the beginning of the procedure to the conclusion of the contract, due to the ongoing lawsuits. The competent directorates of the Ministry of Interior worked on this procedure for almost six months to secure the result – cheaper and much more secure identity documents for Bulgarian citizens.
The documents under the contract were checked in advance by the Public Procurement Agency at my insistence, and their legality was confirmed".
Demerdzhiev also points out that the former Minister of the Interior submitted a statement to the State Financial Inspection Agency that "there were no irregularities in the signing of the contract" for the construction of a system for preparing Bulgarian personal documents.
"When you shoot in the dark, with the aim of hitting someone at all costs, you forget that it is very likely that the shot will ricochet. In this case, it will ricochet on Peevski's minister. If there are indeed violations in the indexing of the contract, the question arises as to why Kalin Stoyanov personally submitted a statement to the State Financial Inspection Agency that there were no irregularities in the signing of the contract and that he made all payments under it. If there is mismanagement, and I claim that there is not, then it was committed by the one who paid under the contract, after changing his mind and accepting that this contract contradicts the law, "he writes.
Ivan Demerdzhiev is categorical that he will continue to highlight all their schemes and illegal actions: "In conclusion, I will turn to Peevski and his wards. If anyone thinks that in this way he will shut my mouth and make me shut up, he clearly does not know me well enough. On the contrary, I will not tire of highlighting all their schemes and illegal actions and appealing to civil society to fight against them. Because in the state of citizens, those sanctioned for grand corruption under "Magnitsky" do not govern the state and its institutions, but are the subject of investigation by law enforcement agencies.".
