This governance formula is the only one possible at the moment, as shown by the votes of no confidence, which did not offer any real alternative. This government has no alternative and must do the job for which it was elected. I firmly believe that the participation of the BSP-OL is the necessary stabilizing factor that it needed. All this is happening in the conditions of an extremely unstable political environment. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the BSP Atanas Zafirov in the program “More from the Day” on BNT.
These 100 days, which each new government receives as a credit of confidence, were filled with two unsuccessful votes of no confidence, with endless scandals from the opposition, with hearings of ministers on the same topics, thus hindering the work of the ministers, he reported.
In recent years, the political situation in the country has changed a lot and it is naive to think that there are comfortable governing majorities, it is naive to think that someone can choose the partners with whom to govern. Here comes the big question of responsibility. The division in parliament and in society is between reason and extremes, Zafirov explained.
In his words, BSP-OL has set a categorical social vector. “This is possible in this inherited economic reality that we inherited. This is not the budget that left-wing Bulgaria dreams of, but it is still a relatively left-wing budget. We must realize that if we had not taken on this heavy political responsibility, this budget could have been more right-wing or even non-existent”, he explained.
The state needs stable governance that would provide perspective and guarantee the social rights of citizens and the development of Bulgarian municipalities. Municipalities were facing real bankruptcy if there were no stable governance and budget, the Deputy Prime Minister pointed out.
The Bulgarian pension system is imperfect in its current form. It generates uncertainty and inequalities and needs modernization and indexation. Two main things must be clear - this should not mean reducing the size of pensions and raising the retirement age. This roadmap does not envisage these two parameters being affected. Everything else is technology. We will continue to protect the rights of Bulgarian pensioners. In the next budget, we will try to increase maternity benefits and launch a balanced, reasonable and promising housing policy for young families, Zafirov assured.
