The construction of the Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed line (HSR) could start as early as 2024, he told reporters Russian Minister of Transport Roman Starovoit. “Construction should start, at least the preparatory work, this year,” he said.
Starovoit added that the government held its first meeting after signing the concession contract for the construction of the highway. “The form of project management is being determined, a project office is being formed at the government site”, noted the Minister of Transport.
Starovoit noted that the route is currently being clarified, as well as the location of transport hubs, “as this will directly affect passenger flow, convenience and safety.“
Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched the construction of the Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed railway. The construction of the highway is foreseen in the draft transport strategy of the Russian Federation until 2030. The route should reduce the travel time between these cities to 2 hours and 15 minutes, trains will run every 10-15 minutes, the first of which should to appear on the line by 2028. In his message to the Federal Assembly, Putin noted that the route of the highway will pass through Tver and Veliky Novgorod.
