Night Cinema will once again enliven the Varna cultural calendar with an alternative approach to film screenings. The long-term project with a focus on artistic titles outside the standard distribution, offers a different cinema experience and creates a cozy space for connoisseurs of the seventh art.
On Friday, November 22nd, in Hall 5 of FCC Varna, Night Cinema opens the season with a special screening dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the birth of the writer and screenwriter Yordan Radichkov, whose works invariably excite viewers and readers of different generations . Short films and animations based on his iconic stories or original scripts created in collaboration with some of the biggest names in Bulgarian cinema will be presented.
Over the years, Radichkov worked with artists such as Kirkor Azarian, Hristo Hristov, Georgi Dyulgerov, etc., and films of high artistic value continue to be created based on his motives, such as the debut “January” (2021) dir. Andrey Paunov. This Friday's short program includes some of the less frequently shown: “The Tail” (1963) directed by Donyo Donev, “If the colors were gray“ (1969) by Roman Meitsov, “Bread“ (1972) by Naum Shopov, as well as “Sumatoha” (1987) by Ivan Tankushev.
With the onset of the cold months, Varna slows down its rhythm, and Night Cinema becomes a favorite event for those who seek the warm presence of cultural life in the city. By the end of the year, in the form of screenings with live discussions, viewers will have the opportunity to meet well-established names in contemporary Bulgarian cinema, as well as films that have been awarded at some of the recent Bulgarian and European festivals.
