A 53-year-old Bulgarian driver died in a serious accident with a truck on the Athens - Lamia motorway in Greece, local media reported. The truck overturned, and its cargo compartment subsequently caught fire. However, according to investigators, the man died as a result of the impact, not the fire.
According to information from the traffic police, the incident occurred under circumstances that are still unknown. The causes of the tragedy are being clarified. Footage from security cameras in the area is being examined, with one of the leading versions being driving at an inappropriate speed. A technical malfunction is not ruled out.
The traffic accident led to a temporary stoppage of traffic in the section, with cars being redirected to a bypass route.
