Goran Djokovic, who is the uncle of Paris 2024 Olympic tennis champion Novak Djokovic, was elected president of the Serbian tennis federation with the ambition to build a national training center, BTA reported.
Before that, as vice president of the headquarters, he was the tournament director of ATP competitions in Belgrade and Sofia. "My tennis experience is mainly from Novak, but I also spent seven years as director of the "Serbia Open" and "Sofia Open", Djokovic said after his selection.
"My goal is to continue to improve what we have started, with finance being the main thing. We don't have our own facilities, we don't have a National Training Center and I want to make one. I wouldn't even run for this position if we didn't have the full support of the President of Serbia," he added.
Former world number 1 Novak Djokovic won 24 Grand Slam titles. The 37-year-old, a tennis player, is currently fourth in the ATP rankings. Four days ago he was in Sofia, where he played a demonstration match for charity with the best Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov.
