Liverpool and Arsenal have qualified for the semi-finals of the English League Cup tournament, better known as the "Carabao Cup", FOCUS reported.
The Premier League leaders did so after a 2-1 victory as guests of Southampton.
The match was played at "St. Mary Stadium.
Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunes opened the scoring in the 24th minute.
21-year-old Harvey Elliott made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute after an assist from Cody Gakpo.
"The Saints" came back into the game with a goal from Cameron Archer in the 58th minute, but they never got any further.
Liverpool are still unbeaten against Southampton since 2021.
"The Merseysiders" are now on a three-game winning streak, and the "Reds" have won their last 7 out of 8 matches!
Arsenal, meanwhile, edged out city rivals Crystal Palace 3-2 at home at the Emirates Stadium.
Frenchman Jean-Philippe Mateta opened the scoring in the fourth minute after a long pass from goalkeeper Dean Henderson. The Gunners' Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus scored a hat-trick between the 54th and 81st minutes to turn the game around. Danish midfielder Martin Odegaard provided two assists, while England international Bukayo Saka added one. Edin Nketiah sealed the final score in the 85th minute when he was found by Nathaniel Clyne.
In the previous round, Arsenal eliminated Preston North End 3-0 away, while Palace defeated Aston Villa after a 2-1 win in Birmingham.
Newcastle reached the semi-finals of the League Cup. "The Magpies" took the lead over visiting Brentford 3-1 at "St. James' Park".
Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali opened the scoring in the 9th minute, and in the 43rd he doubled the lead after a pass from English winger Anthony Gordon. Swiss defender Fabian Scher completed the scoring in the 69th minute with an assist from Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. Congolese striker Yoann Wisa scored the visitors' consolation goal in the first minute of added time, and the final touch came from Cameroonian Brian Mbemo.
In the previous round, Newcastle achieved a 2-0 victory over Chelsea at home, while the "bees" won 2-1 against Sheffield Wednesday.
The final semi-finalist will be decided tonight. The match between Manchester United and Tottenham is at 10pm.
